Julie de Bastion is a visual artist, writer and educator. As an educator she readily shares her skills, talents and artistic experience through workshops and skill sharing practice. Julie's workshops are inspired and orginate with her creative ideas. They are specifically designed for every age and all stages of ability. Julie sees the Arts as a way to integrate, harmonise and strengthen one's inner life, towards healthy maturation, and to recognise one's own unique talents, truth and beauty.

			We Are All Stories - The Nuneaton Project Part of a research project (over 12 weeks) to validate the beneficial impact of creative work on participants receiving medical care. Project involved hand-made books, story making and story boxes.

			The Big Draw In response to the nationwide BIG DRAW initiative, for the advancement of inclusive drawing, participants from ESCAPE workshops Stratford upon Avon, took part in the making of these delightful “STORYBOXES” Under the artistic guidance of JULIE DE BASTION, drawing took form in 3D wire sculpture, and mono-printed “wallpaper”and other assembleges, to create small worlds within a box. While finding quite by chance a discarded chest of drawers during the project, Julie realised that this additional pun would lend a humorous element to the work, as well as providing the necessary boxes. “The whole project had a wonderful lightness about it and was great fun” The work evolved to inspire a new found genre which Julie titled “A POLYMERIC CO CREATED ART WORK” ( polymerous meaning one work of many parts) utilising the strength of the artist's original idea, flowering into participant's individual, unique expressions and responses and finally, culminating with combining of all the pieces as a unified visual artistic concept.

Participants of Escape Workshops, Stratford Upon Avon, and under the guidance of Julie de Bastion and Ali Allen, created hand printed monotypes and collographed emblematic animal motifs, which then were applied to a “cave wall”.

A film by Werner Herzog ,“The Cave of Forgotten Dreams” was released this year, an awe inspiring documentary on the Chauvet Caves in southern France, where breathtakingly powerful and beautiful cave drawings were found to have been made more than 35,000 years ago.
